A contactor allows a relatively low-power control signal to safely switch a much larger electrical load … turning motors, pumps, fans, lighting, heaters and other equipment on and off.
Simple job. Important component.
When selecting a contactor, there’s more to consider than just amperage:
• Load type and horsepower
• Operating voltage
• Coil voltage
• Number of poles
• Switching frequency
• Auxiliary contact requirements
• Available panel space
And for motor applications, pairing the contactor with the proper overload protection is critical to protecting the motor and the system.
