Junction Boxes

An electric junction box provides a secure, organized point for connecting and routing electrical wiring in industrial systems. Junction boxes are commonly used by OEMs, panel builders, electrical contractors, engineers, and maintenance professionals working with automation equipment, control systems, machinery, and field wiring. Depending on the application, weatherproof junction boxes can also help protect electrical connections from moisture, dust, and other environmental conditions.

American Electrical, Inc. (AEI) offers pre-engineered junction boxes with terminal blocks installed and ready for use. By combining the enclosure and connection components into one part number, these products can help reduce assembly time, simplify sourcing, and provide a cleaner approach to field wiring. For applications requiring protected connections, AEI’s weatherproof junction boxes provide enclosure and cable-entry features suited to demanding industrial environments.

Key Features and Benefits

AEI junction boxes are designed with practical installation and maintenance requirements in mind. The feed-through models feature top-entry tension-clamp terminal blocks, allowing conductors to be inserted through the terminal opening after the clamp is opened with a screwdriver. Wires can also be released using the same mechanism.

The feed-through electric junction box models use NEMA 4X enclosures and are supplied with two M20 cable grips and locknuts. The cable grips provide IP68 protection when properly installed, helping protect cable entry points against dust and water ingress. The covers use four spring-loaded screws requiring a 90-degree turn, providing convenient access to the terminals.

Pre-installed terminals reduce the need for field assembly and eliminate the need to source an enclosure and terminal blocks separately. This can save installation time while providing a consistent, organized connection point for industrial wiring.

Product Line Breakdown

AEI’s feed-through junction box line includes four configurations to accommodate different wiring requirements:

  • JB-FT5: Five feed-through terminals, rated at 35 A and 600 V.
  • JB-FT10: Ten feed-through terminals, rated at 35 A and 600 V.
  • JB-FT15: Fifteen feed-through terminals, rated at 35 A and 600 V.
  • JB-FT20: Twenty feed-through terminals, rated at 26 A and 600 V.

Each model provides pre-engineered terminal connections inside a compact enclosure. The different terminal counts allow engineers and installers to select an electric junction box based on the number of connections required without assembling individual components for common applications.

Specialty Junction Boxes

In addition to the feed-through models, AEI offers specialty junction boxes for different connection requirements.

The SIG JB-12 uses three sets of four PRD 2.5 terminals and is rated for 20 A. This configuration provides an alternative to the standard feed-through terminal arrangements.

The SW JB-9 uses three sets of MPB 3-pole lever-operated wire connectors and is rated for 32 A at 450 V. Its IP65 polypropylene enclosure and included IP68 cable grips make it another option for applications where protected connections are needed.

These specialty options expand AEI’s range beyond standard weatherproof junction boxes, giving customers additional configurations for circuit connections, wire distribution, and other industrial electrical requirements.

Quality Assurance

American Electrical, Inc. supports its industrial electrical product line with an emphasis on accurate specifications, reliable products, and responsive customer service. AEI offers products with certifications and compliance markings such as UL certification, CE marking, and RoHS compliance, with REACH documentation available where required.

AEI’s focus on product specifications and consistent manufacturing helps customers select junction boxes and other electrical components that meet their application requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are junction boxes used?

Junction boxes can be used in industrial equipment, machinery, automation systems, control panels, and other electrical installations where wires need to be connected or organized.

What does a junction box protect?

A junction box helps protect electrical connections from physical contact and, depending on its design, dust, water, and other environmental conditions.

Are all junction boxes the same?

No. Junction boxes can differ in size, connection type, number of terminals, electrical ratings, and level of environmental protection. AEI offers several configurations for different wiring requirements.

How do I choose the right junction box?

Consider how many connections you need, the electrical requirements of your application, and the environmental conditions where the box will be installed. The available AEI models provide different terminal configurations and ratings.

Are junction boxes easy to install?

Pre-engineered models can make installation simpler because the required terminal blocks are already installed inside the enclosure. This reduces the amount of assembly needed before wiring.
